So Mike's brother Rick and his friend John are here. We had a huge dinner last night of which the entire roasted chicken is still in the fridge (and none of us can figure out how no one managed to even taste it). As usual, we played Guillotine only they decided to add the extra fun of doing a shot every time a blue card was picked up (if you picked it up you didn't have to drink). Guess who never once got the blue card? So I learned an important lesson: Do NOT under any circumstances drink Bushmills while you're taking shots. Nothing good can come from it.

Merry Christmas everyone!

So it's not very Christmasy around here. My parents are in Michigan. Our house doesn't have lights around. I haven't made Christmas cookies to take to all of my doctors (that's what I did last year... they have to put up with me nearly as much as my husband). However, Cicero has discovered the joy of wrapped presents (and looks very cute under the tree sleeping among them... but I can't find my camera to take a picture).

Christmas Eve consisted of cleaning for Mike's brother and John (arriving in about an hour I today) and lots of playing Guild Wars. Then the "Christmas Freak-out" where I went to the Cookswars store at the last minute in order to buy cookie cutters (still haven't made the cookies but it made me feel better to get all the stuff). To his credit, Mike tried to get my sprinkles and such. But of course, he didn't get Christmas sprinkles. However, he did get the REALLY cool Batman shaped sprinkles. How awesome is that?!? So our cookies may not look that Christmas like but they will have little bat symbols all over it. Maybe I can eat them with my Batman Spaghetti-Os.

After the "Christmas Freak-Out" we went to church. I haven't been to this one yet but I liked it well enough. The things that were wrong with it: they didn't sing Once in Royal David City and they had none of the traditional responses and didn't even say the Lord's Prayer. I like ritual, and this didn't have any. But they had a bell choir. Now, I'm not that religeous but I feel it's necessary that I find a church here (there's one on every street corner but most don't even have pews let along an organ and a bell choir). This one may have to do. Now the funny part about Christmas service... well, Mike's an athiest and was making cracks and singing the wrong words to the carols. And my voice is so frakked up with my surgery I think the people in front of us got up and left because they couldn't stand sitting in front of me. And of course I have this inability to supress my urge to say "So say we all!" instead of "Amen" (you Battlestar fans will understand).

After church we came home and got distracted watching The Phantom of the Opera on HBO. I liked it much more than when we saw it in the theatre (probably because I've already been a bit let down by it and the overly grand sets sets and Joel Scheumacher decadent barf all over the production didn't look as bad on the small screen). I still cry every time I hear her sing "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again". Why can't I like the "happier" stuff? Of course, it was quite humorous to discover that one of the people playing one of the dopey Opera House owners was the same guy who played Julius Ceaser in HBO's Rome. Now THAT is a twistedly sick juxtaposition watching his death scene (very well done) soon before watching him leap around a set in a horridly giant wig singing in a dopey musical!

But the main event of the evening, as it is each year, is the necessary watching of one of my favorite Christmas movies. This year, the choice was Die Hard. Today we'll watch Lethal Weapon. Anyway, I was a little delighted to find that Mike had NEVER seend Die Hard the whole way through! I love that movie so much I can't imagine anyone NOT watching it. Allen Rickman does such a good job and all the characters are so wonderful. Line delivery and writing is exceptional for an action movie and you have to love Agent Johnson and Special Agent Johnson of the FBI. How can you possibly not? If you haven't seen it, go rent it (or better yet, buy it) right now! I need to get it on DVD, though. My tape has been watched so many times that it's getting very worn out. My birthday's coming up in about a month, everyone... keep it in mind. :)

So, I haven't been updating this mostly because I've gotten sucked into this game called Guild Wars. It's super fun. Best of all, if our connection doesn't suck I can play it WITH Mike instead of taking turns (Although right now our connection does really REALLY suck). If you're into RPGs at all and like gaming, check this one out. It's like Neverwinter Nights, but with a throw back to the old days of MUDs where you're actually interacting with other people. Mike's described it as being sort of like Everquest, but that's not a game I ever got into. Dave tried to get me into it once... I didn't like it because I missed the RP. I'm usually not a hack and slash sort of person. This game at least has a story line and purpose. And it's a one time only buy! No monthly fee. It's not really RPG, though I'm sure there are some Guilds out there that take their RP seriously (I'd like to find one and become a member if they do exist). My character is Xiadea Corpelle (if you knew me from The Weave you should know that name). No, she's not an elementalist, but true to form she's a Necromancer. I thought about creating a Navene, but it didn't seem like I should unless Pat is playing (Pat if you're reading this, buy this game... I am not sure if we can play cross countries but if we can it might be fun to get the old team back together again).

So surgery recovery: I'm almost back to my old self. It still feels like I tried to swollow a tennis ball, but thankfully the pain isn't always there anymore. Only a bit when I swollow, thought coughing makes it all bad again. I think because of the healing process I'm coughing a lot. It's been horrid! I was very happy to finally get my voice back early this week. Of course, promptly lost it again due to afformentioned cough which came on about Tuesday.

For those of you expecting Christmas cards, you'll get them. Just late. And for those of you who are expecting them and don't get them.... well, my address book is in serious need of updating. People have moved in the last year and a half and they haven't given me all their information. Yay.

Anyway, off to try to find something else to do online that doesn't require a high download speed.

Hi everyone. Haven't felt much like typing but I've been dealing with this lack of tonsils thing for a week now. Or nearly a week. Everything you've ever heard about adults and tonsilectomies is TRUE! However, it's also really not as bad as I thought it would be. It is like having the worst sore throat ever. And I haven't been drinking enough fluids so it hurts even more. But I've been able to EAT and aside from the time when it nears the time when I can take my pain meds it's not horrible so long as I'm constantly sipping something. Otherwise it's agony (nighttime is the worst). Also the side effects from the pain meds are horrible. Overall, the doctor said the surgery only took 15 minutes and that it was very clean. Some scaring, but the glands themselves weren't very big which made it easy. I love that doctor guy. He's a great man.

I got a bit of good news from my friend Tara. She read on SciFi Wire that they have officially decided to make a pair of Witchblade movies. I really hope it's with the same cast as the tv show that I miss so terribly much. And in case I haven't plugged it before, take a look at Kelly's site. She make's great replicas and she's one of the nicest people on the internet. Anyway, I've been thinking about ordering another one from her. I want the Elizabeth Bronte version as well as a smaller witchblade with moonstone in it. Not sure... tough decisions!

Also, Baba update: Baba ded last weekend. I guess it happend after Mike got back here (he was here in time for my surgery, just barely but by a larger margin than the previous surgery). I don't know the details of her death but she was 89 years old, I believe. The family is requesting that instead of flowers people get local churches to dedicate Masses in her honor. I don't know much about this, but Mike seems to think I know more about it than I do, though I never ever was Catholic and he grew up catholic with catholic traditions. Still I'll try to get this done if that's what they want.

Also, Spooky was put to sleep. Finally. The cat had a nice long life.

Terrified. Yeah, I am. What of it? Tonsils come out on Friday and everything everyone says leads to a whole world of YUCK and OUCH! Wish me luck.

Cicero's sneezing a lot. He also puked a couple of times. Just what I need... sick Cicero again right at the time when I'm supposed to be sick myself. In the mean time Oberon's just getting fat off of the Low Residue diet (thanks Cicero) that we have the boys on. Cicero's being a little piggy too, so he can't be that bad, right? But I'm not taking any chances with either one of my boys. They are my boys and I love them so incredibly much.

Say a small prayer for Mike's cat Spooky. He was put to sleep yesterday, the poor cat. Mike's having a hard time with it.

And say a prayer for Mike and his family. His grandma is in the hospital (Winnipeg) and may not make it out of there. Mike's there now, and likely will be through my surgery date. I don't mind because I didn't get a chance to say goodbye to my grandpa and I really wish I had. Also, I'm the Angel of Death when it comes to visiting dying people in the hospital, which means I get to stay home. Well, that and I have a ton of work, apparently a sick kitty, and need to get everything done before Friday at 6:30 am. Poor Baba... I wish I'd had a chance to get to know her.

So these things always come in threes... Spooky, soon to be Baba... hopefully my tonsils are the final casualty. If not, maybe I will be under anesthetic or post-op choking on my own blood. There's a fun thought.
